GRAHAM HANDLING
Kudos to MW for picking Jim Graham as your Person of the Year [Issue 12/31/98]. I was also please by the sheer volume and variety of photos in your Snapshots wrap up. What a terrific way to remem-
ber the year that was-and honor someone who continues to do so much for our community and this city.

DISTRESSED LEATHER
In last week's cover story [Men of Discipline: A New Guard, issue 1/14/99], Metro Weekly glorified, almost sanctified, a "lifestyle" that is at best a monumental waste of time and money, and at worst a breeding ground for abusive masochists and self-deluded losers. If someone enjoys a little S&M or uniform fetish in their private sex life, more power to them. But it's ridiculous to try and make it more than it really is—namely a bunch of guys getting their rocks off. I don't care how many conferences you hold or chapter presidents you elect. The "Men of Discipline" take themselves way too seriously, and their devotion to a culture that instills fear in most people makes me question their motives.

In general, I liked your year-inreview issue ["1998: A Year to Remember, issue 1/7/99], but how come there was no men-
tion of Cobalt's untimely demise? I know they'll probably re-open sometime later this year, but when a club burns down in a community this size, I think it's worth remembering. Especially considering you included something about Trumpets' closing.

Editor's Note: It was merely an oversight. Plus we're hoping that Cobalt's "demise" is short-lived and they'll be back before you know it. EGYPTOLOGY
Randy Shulman's review of Prince of Egypt ["Plague," 1/14/99] was one of the few reviews I've read that even came close to capturing how disappointing that movie was. If this is an omen of things to come from Dreamworks, I'd rather wander aimlessly in the desert for forty years.
